Physical Jags Deliver in Liam Coen’s Debut, Defeat Panthers 26–10

The 2025 season started off with a bang as the Jaguars decisively defeated the Carolina Panthers 26-10. This was Jaguars HC Liam Coen's highly anticipated coaching debut. Many wondered what this team would look like. From the very first press conference, Coen said he wanted to be physical and run the football. Both of those expectations showed up in full effect on Sunday. The Jags rushed for over 200 yards — their most in a season opener since 2022, when they rushed for 246 yards against the Colts. They were led in the run game by running back Travis Etienne, who rushed for 143 yards on 16 carries. Etienne had a game-changing 71-yard rush to get the Jags into scoring position. The Jaguars used all four running backs in the game. LeQuint Allen served as the designated third-down back, while Etienne, Bigsby, and Tuten rotated on early downs. The defense was led by captains Foye Oluokun and Jourdan Lewis. Both showed up in huge ways. Oluokun forced two turnovers in the first half, and...

2025 Jacksonville Jaguars Training Camp Preview

The Liam Coen era is officially upon us as the Jaguars  begin  their first training camp under Coen. The youngest staff in the NFL will look to create and establish stability, building a culture that can lead to the consistency the franchise has been searching for since Tom Coughlin roamed the sidelines. Coen is billed as an offensive savant who has produced effective offenses everywhere he's been—from UMass to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and every stop in between. While he's not typically viewed as a QB guru, every offense he has produced is very QB-friendly. Can Coen finally be the one to turn Trevor Lawrence into the player he is destined to be? Newly appointed General Manager James Gladstone, viewed as the "boy wonder," comes from the Los Angeles Rams' front office, where he honed a keen eye for talent under the tutelage of Rams GM Les Snead. Gladstone has taken the reins and looks to make moves that will push the Jaguars to an AFC South division title and make ...

2022 Season Preview: Jacksonville Jaguars

The 2022 Jags take the field this year, after a dreadful and eventful 2021 campaign. The Urban Meyer experience failed and he was fired after going 2-11 to start the season. Fast forward to now, and the franchise has hired an experienced and proven HC in Doug Pederson to lead the way. Will he bring the stability the franchise is looking for and bring forth a contender in the AFC? Offense:  Offensively the Jaguars put in a lot of money to this side of the ball bringing in key free agents that is led by  WR Christian Kirk. The WR that last played for the Arizona Cardinals looks to become WR1 for the franchise. Can he live up to the standards and the hype? They also brought and 2 additional weapons in WR Zay Jones and TE Evan Engram. They should be able to help tremendously in the passing game to help out Trevor Lawrence. The biggest FA addition in my opinion was the signing of Guard Brandon Scherff. He's an established Pro Bowl guard that will help change the attitude on the off...

2020 NFL Draft Review Jaguars

Image
2020 Jaguars Draft Class: Round 1:  CJ Henderson - CB, Florida Round 1:  K'Lavon Chaisson - Edge, LSU Round 2:  Laviska Shenault - WR, Colorado Round 3:  DaVon Hamilton -DT, Ohio St. Round 4:  Ben Bartch - OT, St. John's (Minn) Round 4:  Josiah Scott- CB, Michigan St. Round 4:  Shaq Quarterman - LB, Miami (FL) Round 5:  Daniel Thomas - Safety, Auburn Round 5:  Collin Johnson - WR, Texas Round 6:  Jake Luton - QB, Oregon State Round 6:  Tyler Davis - TE, Georgia Tech Round 7:  Chris Claybrooks - DB/RS Memphis Initial Thoughts:             Now that the 2020 Draft is over for the Jaguars. How well did I think Caldwell and Co. draft? Ultimately I think they drafted above average in the early rounds, and pretty poorly in the late rounds. CJ Henderson was the top pick. He's an elite cornerback from Florida. He excels very well in man to man coverage. He will step in and h...

College Football Week 2 Preview and Predictions

Image
Week 1 featured some upsets and some chalk, but not many marquee matchups. However, week 2 has a couple of big-time early season matchups. Jimbo vs, Dabo, Texas Vs. LSU, and an old Big 12 rivalry with Nebraska and Colorado. Also, can Tennessee and Florida State rebound after embarrassing and mind-boggling losses? Games to Watch:  #6 LSU @ #9  Texas LSU visits the Longhorns for a Top 10 showdown. LSU and Texas both bring in experienced QBs in Sam Ehlinger and Joe Burrow. Both offenses have a bevy of weapons to work with. For Texas, Senior WRs Colin Johnson, and Devin Duvernay will be matched up against a very tough LSU Secondary. They also have a pretty talented RB in Keontay Ingram that will help Ehlinger in the Texas ground game. On LSU's side, Burrow will be helped by WRs Ja'marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, and TE Thaddeus Moss, Yes he's the son of  HOF WR Randy Moss. On the Ground, LSU will have Lanard Fournette and Clyde Edwards- Helaire. This game will ulti...

College Football 2019 Season Preview and Predictions

Image
As the new college football season is quickly approaching, I'll be previewing the upcoming season with some predictions as well. Will Clemson repeat as National Champs? Will the Pac 12 have a resurgence to the national scene? or Who will be the dark horse to rise to the National scene? 2019 Power 5 and Group of 5 Conference Champions SEC:    Alabama Crimson Tide The Alabama Crimson Tide returns to 2019 with a bad taste in their mouths. The Crimson Tide were embarrassed on the biggest stage against Clemson, losing 44-16 to the tigers. I expect a resilient team this year. Bring back QB Tua Tagovailoa, and the best WR Trio in the nation tied with Clemson. Jerry Jeudy is arguably the best player in college football, and another branch on the Bama WR tree, He's dynamic in every way. He and Tua will carry Bama to another SEC title, but I do believe this will be one of the most difficult SEC seasons for Bama in a long time. Intense battles with Auburn and LSU will...

College Football Week 1 Takeaways

Image
Week 1 CFB Takeaways College Football is finally back and Week 1 was a good one, but also a let down. Majority of the top marquee games were dominated by one side. Harbaugh and Michigan were thoroughly outplayed by Notre Dame, and left UM alum Braylon Edwards in meltdown mode. Miami’s #8 ranking went up in question after a terrible showing in Jerry World. Tua and Co. dominated Louisville, and Taggart had an abysmal showing in his Doak debut.  Now here is my top 4 takeaways from week 1. Lethal Simplicity An offensive term coined by Florida State Head Coach Willie Taggart to describe his offensive system was the downfall for him and a couple of big time head coaches. Miami, and Michigan fell into lethal simplicity as well. A vanilla offense with a lack of creativity was the downfall for Harbaugh, Richt, and Taggart. Going against some of the nations better Defensive Coordinators the simple offenses were  just too easy for the aggressive defenses to defend....
