2022 Season Preview: Jacksonville Jaguars

The 2022 Jags take the field this year, after a dreadful and eventful 2021 campaign. The Urban Meyer experience failed and he was fired after going 2-11 to start the season. Fast forward to now, and the franchise has hired an experienced and proven HC in Doug Pederson to lead the way. Will he bring the stability the franchise is looking for and bring forth a contender in the AFC?

Offense:

Offensively the Jaguars put in a lot of money to this side of the ball bringing in key free agents that is led by  WR Christian Kirk. The WR that last played for the Arizona Cardinals looks to become WR1 for the franchise. Can he live up to the standards and the hype? They also brought and 2 additional weapons in WR Zay Jones and TE Evan Engram. They should be able to help tremendously in the passing game to help out Trevor Lawrence. The biggest FA addition in my opinion was the signing of Guard Brandon Scherff. He's an established Pro Bowl guard that will help change the attitude on the offensive side of the ball and become a meaner and more physical group.

As a whole, the offense will be much improved than it was the year before. Pederson has surrounded Lawrence with a wealth of QB knowledge that will help him in his development with Offensive coordinator Press Taylor, QB Coach Mike McCoy, and of course himself to lead the charge. The experience that Pederson has will bring a more cohesive and competent unit. As much as people expect Trevor to be the start of the offense, Running Backs Travis Eitienne, and James Robinson are the key to having a successful offense this year. A team that in the past that has struggled to score points and stay on the field needs to sustain drives, needs to prioritize the run game to be a successful offensive unit.

Offensive Season MVP:  Zay Jones

Player That Needs To Step Up: Jawaan Taylor

Defense:

The Jaguars defense has been retooled and revamped and looks to be the most talented it has been since the 2017 Sacksonville defense, It will be led by 1st-year Defensive Coordinator Mike Caldwell who comes from the Tampa Bay Bucs staff, where he coached Linebackers. The strength of this defense will be the front 7 led by the edge rushing duo of Jags captain Josh Allen and 1st Overall Pick Travon Walker. The chaos they can create both in the passing and run defense. This unit will go as far as they will go. In the secondary, it has been upgraded with the free agent signing of the hometown kid and former Rams CB Darious Williams who help solidify the nickel spot. 2nd-year Safety Andre Cisco should bring instant impact to the safety position with playmaking ability. At the linebacker position, it will be led by FA Signing Foye Oluokun and Rookie LB Devin Lloyd.  With their high football IQ, and tackling ability

Defensive Season MVP: Travon Walker
