College Football Week 2 Preview and Predictions
Games to Watch:
- #6 LSU @ #9 Texas
LSU visits the Longhorns for a Top 10 showdown. LSU and Texas both bring in experienced QBs in Sam Ehlinger and Joe Burrow. Both offenses have a bevy of weapons to work with. For Texas, Senior WRs Colin Johnson, and Devin Duvernay will be matched up against a very tough LSU Secondary. They also have a pretty talented RB in Keontay Ingram that will help Ehlinger in the Texas ground game. On LSU's side, Burrow will be helped by WRs Ja'marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, and TE Thaddeus Moss, Yes he's the son of HOF WR Randy Moss. On the Ground, LSU will have Lanard Fournette and Clyde Edwards- Helaire. This game will ultimately come down to who can control the clock and run the ball most effectively. In this matchup, I'm rolling with Tigers and I think they win pretty handily.
Prediction: LSU 27 Texas 13
- #12 Texas A&M @ #1 Clemson
The Aggies of Texas A&M will travel to Death Valley to take on the defending national champs in the Clemson Tigers. This game will be a rematch of last year's matchup were Clemson defeated Texas A&M 28-26 in College Station. For A&M to win this game, they should look back at last week's game, where Georgia Tech averaged 3.5 yards per carry and ran the ball pretty well. The Tigers are replacing the Big 3 on the defensive line in Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell, and Dexter Lawerence. That's a lot to replace and think they are most vulnerable there. On the offensive side for Clemson, the game plan is pretty simple stretch the ball far and wide and use their talented WR group in Tee Higgins, Justyn Ross, and true freshman Frank Ladson Jr early, and let RB Travis Etienne close the game out in the end. I think this game will be close heading down the home stretch of the 4th, but Clemson will pull away and win the ball game.
Prediction: Clemson 31 Texas A&M 23
- #25 Nebraska @ Colorado
An old fashioned rivalry will be played, formally rivals in the Big 12. Nebraska and Colorado will face off in Boulder, Colorado. Nebraska comes into the game as the preseason darlings as many picked Nebraska to be the team to take leaps and win the Big 10 West division. They struggled last week against South Alabama. The Cornhuskers look to bounce back with Sophmore QB Adrian Martinez as he struggled last week. He and HC Scott Frost and the up-tempo offense will be matched up against Mel Tucker and a pretty good Buffalo defense led by LBs Mustafa Johnson and Nate Landman. Offensively Colorado brings in a prolific passing attack led by QB Steven Montez and big-time WR Laviska Shenault. I expect Colorado's Passing game, and Mel Tucker's defensive expertise will put the Buffaloes over the top and they should beat Nebraska.
Prediction: Colorado 38 Nebraska 17
- Miami @ North Carolina
This to me is the most interesting matchup of the day just because off how both teams played last week. Miami is looking to bounce back from a tough loss against #11 Florida. Miami played pretty well on the defensive side of the ball. Forcing 4 turnovers. Offensively their line was atrocious and still is. That will be the deciding factor for most of the games the Hurricanes will play. UNC is coming off a big-time win against rival South Carolina. True freshmen QB Sam Howell debuted an impressive performance and played exceptionally well against the Gamecocks. Can he do it again and put UNC on track to a Coastal divisional title? This game will come down to the matchup of the Tar Heel's offense vs. the Hurricane 's defense can Sam Howell effectively move the ball and limit the turnovers. I think the turnover chain will come out early and often and the Hurricanes will give themselves multiple chances to put this game away in the 2nd half.
Prediction: Miami 24 North Carolina 10
